Fire Marshal

This course is for staff with a designated responsibility as fire warden or fire marshal and provides the skills and confidence that will allow them to carry out their duties relating to fire safety and emergency procedures. The number of fire wardens that your organisation requires depends on the building design and use. In addition, you should train extra staff to cover for holidays and illness.

(Note: Whenever premises are occupied at a reduced levels there must always be a Fire Marshal on site)

Course Objectives:

At the end of the course the student will:

· Be aware of the dangers of fire

· Understand the nature of fire and how it spreads

· Be aware of simple fire prevention measures

· Understand what to do in the event of a fire alarm

· Be able to distinguish between different types of fire extinguishers

· Be equipped to perform their fire safety duties

Course Content:

· The Health and Safety at Work (General) (Guernsey) Ordinance, 1987

· The Fire Services (Guernsey) (Amendment) law, 2014

· Regulatory Reform Order (Fire Safety) 2005

· Basic fire prevention

· Building fire protection

· Evacuation procedures

· Chemistry of combustion

· Practical use of a fire extinguishers in conjunction with a live flame

Who should attend:

Staff with designated responsibilities for overseeing fire safety.

Duration: ½ day (9am—12.30 approx.)

Certificate:   Candidates will be awarded a certificate of attendance.
